Making things happen!

Looks like I’ve neglected to write for a few weeks….woops!
To catch you up… Selena is growing and growing. We have a nighttime sleep schedule going and our routine is working. Her nap time sucks (we’re still working on it). In a week she’ll be sleeping in her room…I’m sure she’ll protest, but it has to happen.
Selena can lift her head and soon she’ll be crawling…maybe
Check her out on the left.
Selena is really talking and likes when we sing, or put on music…could she possibly grow to be a musician? Hmmm. Her favorite instrument so far seems to be the tambourine. She hates talk radio and cries until I change the channel hahahah. Check out the pic….she’s playing the guitar in her sleep.
Peter made me a huge breakfast with French toast. He gave me an all day spa gift certificate which includes a massage, facial, pedicure, manicure and lunch. Peter and Selena took a nap then we were off to the horse races. It was super packed, but we had a good time and Selena was observant checking out the people. We busted her placing bets….hahah yeah right. We placed bets, but didn’t win anything.
Later in the day we met up with mom and took her to dinner and had a nice time talking and hanging. Mom made me earrings with Selena’s birthstone. We gave mom a photo album put together on Shutterfly.
My first mother’s day was awesome and I’m so glad to have a little wee one in our life. Life sure is different, but it’s nice to see things through her eyes. Everything seems so magical…she’s a little sponge and everything is new and exciting…sometimes too exciting.
Peter and I are going to our first concert in a loooooong time on Thursday. We’re ready…woo wee.
I go back to work in two weeks…I’m sad but excited all in one.
On Friday Aunt Linda comes into town. Can’t wait to hang out with her and show her Seattle.
Check out the latest video of Selena here.

Selena is finally eating from the bottle…woo hoo! This is a good thing, because she’s going through a growth spurt right now, and my boobs are having a hard time keeping up.
She keeps changing over night and is so big. At her 2 month checkup (last Friday), she weighed in at 10 pounds, 4 ounces. She also got her shots…eek. I actually cried, it was horrible. The doc. says she has torticollis….basically she only turns her head to one side, sleeps on one side etc. Her muscles are developing more on one side of the neck so we have to take her to physical therapy….yeah we’re bringing our infant to physical therapy. We’ve already started working on her neck at home. We’ve switched everything around so we can get her to turn her head the other way.
Selena giggles, coos, smiles and interacts well. She can hold her head up on her own and we practice tummy time daily to get her crawling muscles going.

I took Selena swimming for the first time this week. She was interested, but cold. We went under water a few times much to her dismay. I’ll make a swimmer out of her eventually. After swimming I had to put her in a warm shower and a bath.
She watched her first movie with me today. They have a mother’s movie day at some theater out here and kids can come along. She was pretty good during the movie.
In other news…Peter and I had our one year wedding anniversary, although we’ve been together for nine years. We celebrated with dinner, a movie and, Peter made me a gift. Very sweet.
Lately Selena and I have been going on many outings and playing. I’m also trying to do freelance work at home and get in shape….oh the plans I have.

That’s right…we’ve been trying to teach Selena how to use a bottle.
I almost want to laugh when I see her and Peter go at it. Neither one will give in, but in the end she needs to eat so she gets the boob. I have a feeling we’re gonna have a showdown, but until then we keep trying and hoping. She can’t eat from the boob forever….although some kids do…hahah.
I joined the Peps group (parent group), so I meet with new parents in my area. So far its nice, I get a lot of questions answered and I’m making new friends.
A theater in Bellevue lets moms bring their kids and watch new movies. Next Thursday I’m going to see “Hot Tub Time Machine.” Woo hoo I’m excited since I’m a movie buff and can’t really go to the theater. I also found a place to take Selena swimming, but I’ll wait a little while to take her since she seems to have sensitive skin like her mom and dad.
In other news the Sounders are playing next week and we need to figure out what to do with the wee one and our one year wedding anniversary is next weekend…(although we’ve been together 9 years now…hahah wow that’s a long time).

Dad and Terry came for a visit and had a good time meeting Selena. Actually, Selena really enjoyed playing with Terry. Terry is great with kids, which isn’t a surprise since she teaches 2nd grade.
We went out to eat all the time, dad was getting over some sickness and the weather sucked balls, so we mostly hung out.
Dad left me that stupid chime outside our house for April Fool’s! I think we’ve been passing that thing back and forth for ten years, we’ve been doing it so long neither one of us can remember how long, or how it started. All I know is when I swing by New Orleans in August, he’ll find it somewhere in his house when he gets back from Hawaii…hahhahah.
In other news….its Easter weekend and we’re going on an Easter egg hunt, although Selena will probably be sleeping, its sort of a kick off to what will be the future of kid outings.
Sunday we’ll do nothing….take a walk and just relax…in fact Peter and Selena are both taking a nap right now….hahahah. I wish I could take naps as easily as those two.

Ryan and Mike came for a visit. They really got me out of the house and I practiced breast feeding in public for the first time. It happened at
Outback Steakhouse. Selena hit a high octave and I finally had to do the boob thing with much reluctance, but it wasn’t bad and now I’m a pro, or something of the sort…if one can be a boob pro
Ryan and Mike were a little nervous at first holding Selena, but by the end of their visit they were excellent with her. Ryan’s soothing songs were Selena’s favorite. You can see the pic above…I think that was Ryan’s first time holding a newborn….aaaawww.
We had many adventures from hitting up Leavenworth, to dining out frequently, to visiting
Snoqualmie falls. I would normally say this is just a week in the life of, but with a newborn everything is a bit more difficult…and as I sit here and type she stirs, its really hard to take a shower and go to the bathroom with a wee one who hates to take naps during the day….egads. At least she sleeps well at night.
In other topics, the Sounders are kicking off their season against Philly tonight. Peter and I are having our first date. Jamie and Lisa are watching Selena. I hope she does well….she has been a crank pot today. Selena will get her first date night with Silas.

Sara and Grambo have been in town for a visit. Its been great having them here to help out. Selena enjoyed meeting her Aunt and Great Grandmother.
I’ve been venturing out for errands with Grambo and Sara and getting more comfortable getting out of the house with Selena. I haven’t run into a public breast feeding episode but I’m sure it will happen soon. I’ve been getting cabin fever, and frustrated with the whole figuring out the baby’s needs etc., but Peter and I are getting
better and recognizing what she wants more and more….this is hard work…who knew…hahhahah.
In other news we’ve been going to dinner frequently and the Sounders season kick off is coming up. Peter and I need to figure out what to do with Selena for the first game…or it looks like we may have to flip a coin.
Grambo leaves tomorrow morning and Ryan and Mike come in tomorrow night, just in time to celebrate with a green beer!

So here we are over two weeks in with a new baby and things are looking good so far. She’s a fluid machine when it comes to spitting up and diapers. She had her last doc. appointment on Wednesday and weighed 7 pounds 9 ounces, so she’s way above her birth weight, so now we can stop waking her up to feed. Funny thing is she likes to sleep at night and still doesn’t really cry to wake us, but we can hear her making noises, so we get her up.
Mims, her grandma, is in town until next Wednesday and its been great
having her here. She’s been a big help. Peter is back at work and I’m still trying to figure out how to nap….hahah I usually crash around 2 or 3pm, I’m just not use to napping.
I still have cabin fever but we managed to get out a little bit yesterday. I pretended Sarah wasn’t here and put Selena in the car seat and got her in the car….I was a scared about this….silly I know, but everything is new to me and taking a little wee one out somewhere is just nerve racking at first….but then it’s like, “oh..that was easy.”
In other news, Sean may be coming up here this weekend, something is wrong with their dog and the vet can’t figure it out, so I hope things are ok.
I’m ready to start running, but my body tells me to wait a wee bit longer.

The past two weeks have been a lot of trial and error when it comes to all things baby. Peter and I have had our moments but we’re hanging strong and learning a lot. Selena likes to sleep, so we have to wake her to feed….she also gets the hiccups frequently and likes to pee right when we change her diaper while grabbing a new diaper….hahaha. Needless to say we do laundry constantly, but we have a pretty chill baby.
texting while cuddling,
checking email while pumping, reading a novel and magazines while breast feeding (Selena learned all about the economy and finances), grabbing my water bottle with my feet (I’m really good at this), typing and eating with my left hand (I’m a little slow with the left hand right now but getting better).
The neighbors gave us a baby bjorn carrier so I can’t wait to take her for a walk. I went for a 2 mile walk yesterday and it was a little much after labor….it’s only been 10 days, so I probably need to wait a little longer for exercise. I’m getting cabin fever.
Peter went back to work today for a half day and we miss him already.

And she came early….a week and a half early.
Here’s her birth story:
Labor was interesting..the one thing I learned from this whole birth process is nothing ever works out the way you plan it and so is life right?
I wanted to do a natural birth but on Tuesday the 16th I had the “labor signs.” We got excited but then I started leaking Amniotic Fluid…..a lot in fact so we went to the hospital and sure enough my bags of water was ruptured. Because of the increased chance of infection they want people to deliver within 24 hours of your amniotic sack rupturing…so they sent us home hoping natural labor would ensue, but if not we had to be checked in at 5pm on Wednesday, February 17th and we wouldn’t be leaving the hospital until I delivered. I had some contractions but nothing crazy. When we checked in they gave me a pill to induce labor and it worked too well…I had too many coming, so
they gave me a shot to stop it, then it stopped it too much, so they they gave me potosin and upped it slowly but when it kicked in it was not like regular labor it was intense and I had a couple of contractions at the same time and they were coming frequently….so I said screw it give me the epidural…..that was the best thing I did….we were all able to sleep for a little while and rest and then it started to wear off on the right side of my body but still stayed on my left and I started to feel contractions again, but we were at the point of pushing so I had them turn off the epidural so I could feel the contractions to push….I was still numb in the areas that counted, but I was like, “I’m pushing her out before this crap wears off”….so I was able to push her out in about an hour, I also barfed a bit, it was rough…..and I had very little tearing which was good…I’m healing well. Anyways the pushing part seemed the hardest but the easiest if that makes sense and having my mom and Peter there was awesome…they helped so much, much more than they realize…..I had a lot of anxiety about labor beforehand, but it worked out although I never imagined it like it happened.
So Selena Elisabeth Voigt arrived on 2/18/10 at 2:34 pm, she weighed 7pounds 1 ounce and was 19 inches long with a full head of dark hair and she’s a cutie. I’m so lucky to have her and Peter in my life….I feel like the luckiest person alive and I truly think that labor was the most intense experience I’ve ever had!

Lisa posted some pics from the baby shower and the Superbowl….there’s some good ones.
Here’s the Superbowl
Went to the doc. on Friday….says Peli is really engaged now…deep in the pelvic region, my cervix is soft but hasn’t opened….so she says probably not this week which is sort of a relief since we still have to get the house ready and we need to get a few things on our registry too….and have another date before we get no sleep for a while.
I’m ready for her to come though. My legs are starting to hurt and collect water, so that’s not fun by the end of the day and I’m getting less mobile, just want to chill.
In other news….it’s Vday this weekend, the Chinese New Year – Year of the Tiger and President’s day and I’m going to enjoy my three day weekend.
